Yesterday was Opening Day at Denver's Coor's Field, although it was an opening day like none other. Fans are not allowed in the stands this year due to the coronavirus, and the streets around Coors Field were oddly deserted at game time - a truly surreal experience. However, at least one thing hasn't changed. Wade Davis, the Colorado Rockies closer, blew the lead in the 9th inning and the San Diego Padres (a truly bad team) beat the Rockies 8 to 7. And by the way, I took the photograph on the left on Opening Day at Coors Field in 2016, back before the Rockies organization raised Opening Day ticket prices to unaffordable levels. On the bright side, this year I don't have to feel bad about not attending the game in person.
In any case, in honor of Coor's Field's 25th anniversary this year, I am featuring a photograph that I put together using Photoshop, while taking a photography class at the University of Denver. It features a photograph that I took of Coors Field being constructed back in 1994, with the ghosts of - from left to right - Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, and Andres Galarraga superimposed onto it. Of course, unlike those other two players, Galarraga is alive and well and living in West Palm Beach, Florida - still just a kid of 58 and the first Rockies superstar. Keep wearing that face mask, Andres!
