I went up to Fort Collins to visit my sister Susan and brother-in-law George today. I showed them my book "Denver People and Places," which features photographs of them, among others. George was very complimentary. Susan, however, was not very happy with her photographs. "Why did I make her look so ugly?" "Does she really look that bad, or am I just a horrible photographer?" She told me I take excellent zoo photographs, and recommended that I should go back to doing that and never take another photograph of a human being. So much for my dream of becoming another Richard Avedon.
