I took the photograph of this month's Mutt of the Month sitting next to a table at Maria's Cafe, an old-style breakfast and lunch spot in downtown Stuart, Florida. Its owners were gabbing away last Sunday at another table, while this fellow looked like he was ready to get the hell out of there. As I have mentioned in a previous blog post, downtown Stuart and Stuart Beach are the places to be around here on Sundays, and many people bring their dogs along, too, especially now that the weather is much more temperate. And every August, the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast hosts an annual "Pup Crawl" featuring access to six dog-friendly bars in the downtown area, with a free drink at each. Although free is relative, since tickets cost $30 in advance and $40 at the door. My sister Susan and I were here in August, but to be honest, I didn't even pay attention to the event. For one thing, we no longer have a dog, and for another, I did not want to part with 30 bucks. And did the dog in the photograph attend? It wasn't talking.
