A River Red With Blood

I just finished reading A River Red With Blood, John Connolly's latest Charlie Parker novel. This is a private detective series that also has elements of the supernatural in it, but somehow it all works. This time, private detective Charlie Parker is hired to investigate the death of a boy who drowns after running away from a "behavioral modification" facility located in a very rural part of Maine, a "tough love" kind of place that his mother and stepfather sent him to. His birth father is a habitual criminal currently serving a sentence at Maine State Prison, who does not believe his son's death was an accident. Just before his son's death, a girl in the same area as the school went missing, and the father is almost certain that she was his son's girlfriend. Parker takes the case, looking for a connection, and winds up having to confront a band of killers, not to mention deal with a supernatural spirit looking for revenge. This book is a quick read, and a pretty interesting story to boot. I can recommend it to anyone who likes mysteries. Pick up a copy at your local library today.
