The Merry Churchillians

Here in San Francisco there are constant reminders of Jack Kerouac, the author of "On The Road" and leader of a group of hippies called "The Merry Churchillians." This was a group of flower children obsessed with the memory of Winston Churchill. My colleague Wally, who I work with at the DU Bookstore, was a member of this San Francisco group back during "The Summer of Love," and is still is obsessed with Churchill to this day. Now of course, the Churchillian Society is a very proper organization, and has annual meetings at such places as the Drake Hotel in Chicago and the Hotel La Dee Dah in Boston, but they can never erase the fact that they started out as a bunch of hippie freaks. Deal with it, guys.
