Watching The Cricket World Cup With Mark!

Yesterday afternoon I went over to my friend Mark's house to watch England play India in a cricket World Cup match. England is against the ropes, and had to win this match to be eligible to move on to the semi-finals.  Happily they did, and live on to play another day.  This match started at 3:30 A.M. Denver time, and needless to say, I was not up to watching it live.  We watched the game on tape (or whatever the hell they use to record the games these days), and sadly, the tape ran out just before the end of the match.  We had to google the result, and found that England did indeed win the game.  It is not surprising that the tape ran out, because these games last 8 hours (Yes! Eight hours!). And Mark tells me that these matches used to last 3 days.  No wonder the British Empire crumbled - having to play 3 day matches definitely takes your attention away from other things, like running your empire. In any case, I took the above photograph of Mark in the backyard of the home he shares with his twin brother Mike. Mike (who works at the Denver Botanical Gardens) feels about plants like Mark feels about soccer and cricket. The mind just boggles.
