Note To Denver Hipsters: Fort Lauderdale Is Taking Partying To The Next Level

Back in Denver, in the city's Lower Downtown (LoDo) and River North (RiNo) neighborhoods, you frequently see pedal-powered party bikes (one outfit calls them Pedal Hopper rides) that take groups of 6 to 16 people on bar hopping excursions. Everyone takes part in pedaling the vehicle, and a guide steers them to popular bars around the area. I noticed when visiting Fort Lauderdale the other day that the partiers there have taken their carousing to the next level, renting party boats and cruising down the New River. Like those pedal-powered party bikes, music is blasted out of speakers as they go past, sharing it with the public at large. I took the photograph on the left of what I call a Tiki party boat, and unlike in Denver, you don't have to propel the craft yourself, although it might be a fun idea to have a galley ship operate on the river, with the partiers having to row just like galley slaves used to do. They could have cup holders for their drinks right next to them, taking sips as they row, and they could stay in shape at the same time.

Another boat I spotted on the river was called the Boozy Barge, as seen in the photograph on the right. It seemed to operate just like the Tiki bar boat, although with different offensive music blasting from speakers toward the riverbank. Of course, Denver is far from the ocean, and the only river that flows past LoDo and RiNo is the Platte, which is sadly not deep enough to float a party boat. Of course, they could always just dock them along the shore and have the boats remain stationary. Frankly, I don't think the party crowd in Denver would care, or for that matter, even notice that they were not moving. I should definitely become an entrepreneur. I could make a fortune.
