Spring Training 2.0 Has Begun!

Baseball teams reported to their home ballparks yesterday for a second spring training, with regular season play beginning July 23rd or 24th.  Sixty games will be played, with no fans in the stands, and the post season will hopefully take place as scheduled. I am looking forward to watching as many Chicago White Sox games as possible (and Chicago Cubs games, too, if I am truly desperate). Sadly, there will be no minor league baseball this year, which I feel is actually far more enjoyable to attend than major league games.  It is much more laid back, with many wacky promotions for the fans.  Plus, seats are much cheaper, and much closer to the field, like the seat from which I took the above photograph of a West Palm Beach Expos game played at Municipal Stadium, in that city, back in August of 1997 - one of the last games ever played there. And, by the way, driving home from Fort Collins last night, I was happy to see the arc lamps still on at Denver's Coors Field.  Those players are indeed working long hours, earning those millions of dollars, God bless them.
