The May Issue Of Chicago Magazine

There were a number of good articles in this month's issue of Chicago Magazine.  The cover story, of course, is titled Lake Escapes: 12 Lake Michigan Getaways. Chicago Magazine keeps assuming people want to get out of Chicago. Why is that? In any case, there is an interview this month with John Schriffen, the new play-by-play announcer for the Chicago White Sox, which was fun to read. There was also a "Listing of the Month" for a 1880s era home in the South Side Kenwood neighborhood, once owned by the founder of Nabisco. It is 5,600 square feet, has a Queen Ann turret, and is described as a 1.47-million-dollar fixer-upper. Sadly, I am not good at remodeling. If I was, I might have grabbed it. In addition, there is a fascinating article by someone who visited all 77 of Chicago's neighborhoods, and what he learned from the experience. Finally, as usual, there was The Hot List, which each month lists 10 restaurants everyone is talking about, which mostly feature places whose main dishes I have to look up on the internet to find out what they are. Far too much work. Next time I am back in Chicago, I'll just stick to White Castle.
