River North

The River North neighborhood (RiNo) is a former industrial district just north of downtown Denver that is being transformed into an arts, retail, and residential area.  The other day I decided to take a walk through the western, most recently developed part of this area to see what is happening over there.  I parked my car along upper Larimer Street (hipster central) and walked from there.  To get to Brighton Boulevard - the main drag for this western segment of the district - you have to cross a pedestrian bridge over a large railroad yard, and I must say, although there are a lot of new apartments, condos, brewpubs, and even a new hotel and food hall called The Source over there, the area is still pretty gritty, and virtually treeless.  However, kitty corner from the pedestrian bridge is a 19th century building fronting the railroad tracks, with a business on the first level and apartments on the second.  I took the above photograph of the entrance to the back garden of this building, and feel this place is the nicest part of the Brighton Boulevard area.  Modern apartment buildings in a treeless industrial area just do not appeal to me, even if they are just a few minutes from downtown.
