Hiking In Golden

My friend Stuart (seen in the photograph on the left) and I went for a hike along Golden's Clear Creek Trail Saturday afternoon before catching the Cubs-Giants game.  It was a really pleasant day, and the trail was crowded with people.  The colors are beginning to turn in the lower elevations now, which of course means the first snowfall is near.  We walked all along Clear Creek to the end of the trail, and then back again. Clear Creek, in case you don't know, is the water used to make Coors Beer, but don't blame the poor river for that.

The City of Golden, by the way, was the original capitol of Colorado.  It is sheltered from the rest of the Denver metro area by the large butte seen in the photograph on the right, which has resulted in Golden retaining it's small town atmosphere.  There are many tree-shaded, Victorian neighborhoods in the city, and a very lively business district.  As a matter of fact, the old state capitol is still there, and is now a bar and restaurant.  When it was the state capitol, the legislature met upstairs, and then would head downstairs to the bar afterwards. There was even a glassed in room in the back (still there) for the ladies, who were not allowed to be in the bar area.  They are now, of course. Golden has progressed. And in addition to being the home of the Coors Brewery, Golden is also home to the Golden City Brewery, which is located in the backyard of a 1870s era home close to Clear Creek Park. What a town!.
